Amusement Park Bento

My kids love going to the amusement park. Although they can’t ride the big scary rides (scary to me!), they love going on the kiddie rides and coasters. The one thing I hate about going to amusement parks is the cost to buy food or drinks. I try to pack food for our family but don’t always have the discipline. But I woke up Sunday morning with enough time and energy to make a fresh batch of rice and easy eggs for a quick bento. My kids love furikake and these cute Hello Kitty furikake packets complimented these bentos perfectly. Although, when my daughter opened her bento and saw eggs, she asked for ketchup. She loves ketchup with her eggs, probably because I do. As a child, I looved ketchup on anything and everything. I hope you do think we are crazy. 🙂

I hope everyone’s week is going well! Happy summer!

Good Ol’ Standby – Hello Kitty Sandwich

1 Apr

This is just a good ol’ standby lunch.  This morning I need to make a simple, fast and easy lunch as Ms. Little Bubbles and I had to leave early for school.  Hello Kitty is a good standby for me as it’s fast to make out of white non-hole swiss cheese and ham and I can whip it out quickly.  I didn’t have any kamaboko on hand so I made the bow from a slice of ham.  Unfortunately, the veggies in my fridge were sparse, so Ms. Little Bubbles just got fruit.

Another Hello Kitty Bento

Wow, I know, it’s been awhile since I posted a bento.  I’ve been making bentos and have been taking photos of them, but haven’t been able to get to the posting part.  😦  I’m sorry!  As a working mom, life gets crazy.  My “busy” period at work is January – February.  It coincides with flu season too, so it always makes for an interesting time of the year.  A few weeks ago, I caught a bug that knocked me out!  Man, my bones hurt.  But thankfully that flu is done and I’m back to normal, just in time for busy, busy days.

This bento was made last week, or the week before (I’m sorry, I can’t remember).  I swore that I would make a fast bento, but it looked so sad and I felt bad that I wasn’t making “cute” bentos for Ms. Little Bubbles.  So I threw in a Hello Kitty.

Again, a fast and speedy bento.  I hope to catch up with the photos I have on my phone and I have a few recipes that I want to share too.  🙂

Take care everyone and Happy Valentine’s Day.  May your day and YEAR be blessed with love.

Good ol' Standby Bento in a Hello Kitty Bento Box

This was from Thursday.  I didn’t have time to post a picture. 😦  It’s pretty much a good ol’ standby bento in a Hello Kitty bento box.  I timed myself on this bento, and it took me 8 minutes.  I think I could have done it in 5, but it took me some time to figure out what to do with the apples. LOL.  So, you got the apple flowers again.  I need to get more inspiration from my recent additions to the bento book collection, but with the holidays here, I seem to be concentrating on gift, cards and Santa pictures.

Not to digress (and not related to bentos) but today we stood in line for an hour to take a picture with Santa.  When Ms. Little Bubbles was a baby, we were casually shopping in a mall and saw that Santa was free, so we decided to have her take a picture with him.  Then when she was two, I was at the same mall with my friend and we again saw that Santa (the same Santa) was not busy.  So, we took her picture with Santa.  Well… little did I know that I was going to get sucked into this Santa thing.  I now refuse to take Santa pictures at any other place because I want the same Santa in all my pictures.  And according to my kids, that’s the REAL Santa and all the other Santas we see at other malls and stores are fake. 🙂  LOL.  I usually like to take my Santa pictures before Thanksgiving to avoid the crowds, but life got busy and we didn’t have time.  Thus…. today we stood in line for 1 hour!!  My goodness.  Thankfully, the kids were all happy and smiles when it was their turn.  I guess they knew they had to be “good” for Santa.  In fact, now that I think about it, all the kids that were waiting in line were amazingly calm and good.  It must be the holiday spirit!

How To Make Pretty Apple Flowers

Another Cute Hello Kitty Box

Ms. Little Bubbles recently got this Hello Kitty bento box as a present. It’s a standard sized bento box and is perfect for my little one.

Last night I decided to fancy up the rice and use a Japanese beans and seasoning packet in the rice.  I added the mixture to the rice cooker right before it started to cook.  Now, my Japanese s a little rusty (to say the least), but I think it said to put 2-3 cups of rice and then add the packet, but truly I was just winging it.  Luckily, the rice turned out okay, and Ms. Little Bubbles loved it.

Now, I made the rice earlier in the afternoon, without a clear thought on what the main dish was going to be.  Unfortunately, the chicken dish I made didn’t really go with the rice, but that’s okay.

For fruit, I added apples cut into flowers and added sesame seeds for the centers.  Sesame seeds is an easy way to complete a flower.  However, I do have to say that I had to use tweezers to place them.  And using tweezers early in the morning, without coffee, can be a challenge sometimes.  🙂
